Sunday Briefing: Thomas Muehloecker Bags $190K

The $30 million guaranteed KO Series kicked off at partypoker on May 12 and saw some massive prize pool created, including three events with $1 million guarantees. Each of those events paid their champion more than $100,000 with two of them awarding over $180,000!

There were also major events taking place at Natural8 where the Good Game Series began and at PokerStars who launched SCOOP. Here’s a recap of the biggest events.

Thomas “onehundredeyes” Muehloecker added more than $190,000 to his already impressive online poker tournament lifetime winnings by taking down the KO Series #02-SHR: $1M Gtd Championship Event. This $5,200 buy-in event saw 176 entries battle it out in one of the biggest PKO tournaments of the year.

Team partypoker pro Jeff “JeffGross” Gross was the first casualty of the final table. His eighth-place finish saw him win $15,907 plus $7,393 from the bounty prize pool for a haul worth $23,300.

Recent winner of the $1 million guaranteed Big Game, “ucantrybut” was the next player to fall, and they were joined on the rail first by “AussieOsbourne” and then the United Kingdom’s “Welsh187”, the latter banking a combined $33,549.

From that point on, the prize money escalated quickly. “Maddonaa” finished in fourth place for $66,006 before Niklas “Drulitooo” Astedt busted in third place for a total prize worth $123,404. This ended up being more than the runner-up, “R0meluLukaku” banked thanks to Astedt netting $56,306 worth of bounties.

“R0meluLukaku” exited in second-place for $118,059 leaving Mueloecker to claim a first place prize worth $190,073.

Another huge top prize was awarded in the $2,100 buy-in KO Series #03-HR: $1M Gtd Championship Event, namely $185,169. This was the sum given to Brazil’s “Thofie” who topped a field of 111.

The prize was made up of $84,845 from the main prize pool and $100,324 worth of bounty payments, including that on the head of runner-up “blakjak19” of Cyprus who had to console themself with a $99,005 prize.

Earlier at the final table, Manuel “Sheparentao” Ruivo busted in eighth place for $13,775 in total and he was joined on the sidelines by “LeeroyJenkins5”, “porsche911sp” and “n1ceFTW”, the latter scooping $38,989.

A cool $50,296 was awarded to “jaimelaviande” after they fell in fourth-place before “WGretzky_9999” saw their tournament come to an abrupt end in third place for $68,068.

Over at PokerStars, Steve “Mr. Tim Caum” O’Dwyer, fresh from a massive live win in Montenegro, came out on top of a 151 strong field in the $2,100 Sunday Cooldown 8-Max PKO event. Victory saw O’Dwyer secure a prize worth $80,168 when bounties were taken into consideration.

As you would expect from such high buy-in event, the final table was a star studded affair. Dario “Secret_M0d3” Sammartino busted in eighth place for $10,283 and was joined on the rail by “letsgodody” whose seventh place finish was worth $6,962 in total.

Former EPT Malta champion Aliaksei “ale6ka” Boika then busted out in sixth place for $14,775 with “x_zola25” of Denmark being the fifth place finisher for a prize worth $15,039.

Canada’s Kristen “krissyb24” Bicknell fell in fourth place for $18,105 and was joined as a spectator by “karrt” of Brazil who padded their bankroll with $24,686. This left “Pampas27” and O’Dwyer to lock horns heads-up and we already know how that finished! O’Dwyer got his hands on $80,168 with Pampas27 taking the $32,256 consolation prize back to Argentina.

“I’MlliN.3lli” busted in ninth place for $10,917 and was followed by “kofi89” of Uruguay who banked $13,786. Next to fall was the legendary Ole “wizowizo” Schemion who got his hands on the $18,077 seventh place prize, with “Lateski” netting $23,705 for their sixth place finish.

Sam “SamQuid” Grafton of the Uk then fell in fifth place for $31,085 and Jonathan “OMGjonyctt” Concepcion joined him on the rail after busting in fourth place, a finish worth a cool $40,762.

The penultimate bust out was that of the Netherlands’ “Pimms” who collected $53,452, which left “Soyza” of China and Oli “Era_Koira” Ikonen to battle heads-up for the title and the lion’s share of the prize pool.

It was a battle that Ikonen won, securing the $91,913 top prize, leaving Sozya to bank the $70,092 runner-up prize.

This week’s $100,000 Sunday Mega Deep at 888poker saw an overlay as 388 players bought in for $215. Each of the nine players who reached the final table won at least $1,900, the sum awarded to “Happynose” of Belarus after they busted in ninth place.

Germany’s “KlongKlong86” was the eighth place finisher with Kenny “SpaceyFCB” Hallaert joining them on the sidelines; Hallaert’s seventh place finish was worth $3,500. Sweden’s “SkallePer58” and “xvchneru” of Argentina lost their stack and collected $4,500 and $5,800 respectively, before “lintonlin” of Canada busted in fourth place for $8,500, the last position not to win a five-figure prize.

Third place and $11,300 went to “StackinStack” of the Ascension Islands and this set up a one-on-one battle with “Fukuruku” and “guydeet39.” No deal was struck despite their being a $5,450 difference between first and second place, which meant Fukuruku secured a $15,000 prize when they busted in second place and guydeet39 collected $20,450 for their victory.
